1950s S. Irene Johns Red and White Printed Cotton Dress
1950s red and white printed cotton dress. Designed by S. Irene Johns.
Approximately a size Medium.
Description: 1950s red and white cotton printed dress. It has a drawstring keyhole with ties on the front of the bodice. Sleeveless. It has a side zipper and hook and eye closure. The waist is gathered, and the skirt has an interesting construction. There is a front center panel, and two side panels that have a "pannier" feel to them. They have extra fabric that makes them jut out at the hips. The hem of the two side panels are curved at the front. The print has birds in it.
Condition: This dress is in fair to good condition. It was trashed when we got it. It had massive yellowing along the side from being stored incorrectly, and it smelled. After extensive cleaning, the yellowing is 90% gone. It is very wearable -- it is hard to notice the remaining yellowing along the sides, but it is there. There are a few small rust-like spots, and it is missing its belt.
Designer: S. Irene Johns (hard to find info on her, but she was a buyer in the 1940s-70s in New York, and she was into early trend forecasting)
